How to Calculate and Solve for Intercept of Density | Konopicky Equation | Powder Metallurgy

Last Updated on December 10, 2021

The image above represents intercept of density.

To compute for intercept of density, three essential parameters are needed and these parameters are Relative Density of Particles (ρt), Pressing Pressure (P) and Yield Stress Parameter (K).

The formula for calculating intercept of density:

A = In(1 / 1 – ρt) – KP

Where:

A = Intercept of Density | Konopicky Equation
ρt = Relative Density of Particles
P = Pressing Pressure
K = Yield Stress Parameter

Let’s solve an example;
Find the intercept of density when the relative density of particles is 0, the pressing pressure is 4 and the yield stress parameter is 2.

This implies that;

ρt = Relative Density of Particles = 0
P = Pressing Pressure = 4
K = Yield Stress Parameter = 2

A = In(1 / 1 – ρt) – KP
A = In(1 / 1 – 0) – (2)(4)
A = In(1 / 1) – 8
A = In(1) – 8
A = 0 – 8
A = -8

Therefore, the intercept of density is -8.
