How to Calculate and Solve for Ballability of Steel Dust | Powder Metallurgy

The formula for calculating ballability of steel dust:

Ba = kMqω²cosθ/d

Where:

Ba = Ballability of Steel Dust
k = Coefficient of Ballability
Mq = Mass Ratio
ω = Angular Velocity
θ = Angle of Bonding
d = Diameter of Ball Formed

Let’s solve an example;
Find the ballability of steel dust when the coefficient of ballability is 12, the mass ratio is 10, the angular velocity is 14, the angle of bonding is 8 and the diameter of ball formed is 11.

This implies that;

k = Coefficient of Ballability = 12
Mq = Mass Ratio = 10
ω = Angular Velocity = 14
θ = Angle of Bonding = 8
d = Diameter of Ball Formed = 11

Ba = kMqω²cosθ/d
Ba = (12)(10)(14)²cos(8)/11
Ba = (12)(10)(196)(0.99)/11
Ba = (23291.10)/11
Ba = 2117.37

Therefore, the ballability of steel dust is 2117.37.
