How to Calculate and Solve for Concentration Factor | Mineral Processing

Last Updated on December 10, 2021

The image above represents concentration factor.

To compute for concentration factor, three essential parameters are needed and these parameters are Assay of Concentrate (c), Weight of Feed (f) and Assay of Tailings (t).

The formula for calculating concentration factor:

K = (c – t) / (f – t)

Where:

K = Concentration Factor
c = Assay of Concentrate
f = Assay of Feed
t = Assay of Tailings

Let’s solve an example;
Find the concentration factor when the assay of concentrate is 10, the assay of feed is 12 and the assay of tailings is 15.

This implies that;

c = Assay of Concentrate = 10
f = Assay of Feed = 12
t = Assay of Tailings = 15

K = (c – t) / (f – t)
K = (10 – 15) / (12 – 15)
K = -5 / -3
K = 1.667

Therefore, the concentration factor is 1.667.

Nickzom Calculator – The Calculator Encyclopedia is capable of calculating the concentration factor.
