The formula for calculating inflow time:
Ta = Tn – TL
Where:
Ta = Inflow Time
Tn = Opportunity Time
And, TL = Lag Time
Let’s solve an example;
Find the inflow time when the opportunity time is 36 and the lag time is 9.
This implies that;
Tn = Opportunity Time = 36
As well as TL = Lag Time = 9
Ta = Tn – TL
Hence, Ta = 36 – 9
Ta = 27
Therefore, the inflow time is 27.
Calculating the Opportunity Time when the Inflow Time and the Lag Time are Given
Tn = Ta + TL
Where;
Tn = Opportunity Time
Ta = Inflow Time
And, TL = Lag Time
Let’s solve an example;
Find the opportunity time when the inflow time is 28 and the lag time is 12.
This implies that;
Ta = Inflow Time = 28
TL = Lag Time = 12
So, Tn = Ta + TL
Tn = 28 + 12
Tn = 40
Therefore, the opportunity time is 40.

Calculating the Lag Time when the Inflow Time and the Opportunity Time are Given.
TL = Tn – Ta
Where;
TL = Lag Time
Ta = Inflow Time
And Tn = Opportunity Time
Let’s solve an example;
Find the lag time when the inflow time is 18 and the opportunity time is 20.
This implies that;
Ta = Inflow Time = 18
Tn = Opportunity Time = 20
So, TL = Tn – Ta
TL = 20 – 18
TL = 2
Therefore, the lag time is 2.
