# How to Calculate and Solve for Angle of Diffraction | Bragg’s Law

Last Updated on January 14, 2023

The image above represents angle of diffraction.

To compute for angle of diffraction, three essential parameters are needed and these parameters are Order of Reflection (n), Wavelength (λ) and Inter-atomic Spacing (d).

The formula for calculating angle of diffraction:

θ = sin-1(/2d)

Where:

θ = Angle of Diffraction
n = Order of Reflection
λ = Wavelength
d = Inter-atomic Spacing

Given an example;
Find the angle of diffraction when the order of reflection is 6, the wavelength is 3 and the inter-atomic spacing is 9.

This implies that;

n = Order of Reflection = 6
λ = Wavelength = 3
d = Inter-atomic Spacing = 9

θ = sin-1(/2d)
θ = sin-1((6)(3)/2(9))
θ = sin-1((18)/(18))
θ = sin-1(1)
θ = 90°

Therefore, the angle of diffraction is 90°.

Nickzom Calculator – The Calculator Encyclopedia is capable of calculating the angle of diffraction.

To get the answer and workings of the angle of diffraction using the Nickzom Calculator – The Calculator Encyclopedia. First, you need to obtain the app.

You can get this app via any of these means:

You can also try the demo version via https://www.nickzom.org/calculator

Apple (Paid) – https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/nickzom-calculator/id1331162702?mt=8
Once, you have obtained the calculator encyclopedia app, proceed to the Calculator Map, then click on Materials and Metallurgical under Engineering.

Now, Click on X-Ray Diffusion under Materials and Metallurgical

Now, Click on Bragg’s Law under X-Ray Diffusion

Now, Click on Angle of Diffraction under Bragg’s Law

The screenshot below displays the page or activity to enter your values, to get the answer for the angle of diffraction according to the respective parameter which is the Order of Reflection (n), Wavelength (λ) and Inter-atomic Spacing (d).

Now, enter the values appropriately and accordingly for the parameters as required by the Order of Reflection (n) is 6, Wavelength (λ) is 3 and Inter-atomic Spacing (d) is 9.

Finally, Click on Calculate

As you can see from the screenshot above, Nickzom Calculator– The Calculator Encyclopedia solves for the angle of diffraction and presents the formula, workings and steps too.
