How to Calculate and Solve for Energy Generation | Optical Properties

Last Updated on May 26, 2024

To calculate energy generation, two essential parameters are needed and these parameters are Electron Value (e) and Hole Value (h).

The formula for calculating energy generation:

ΔE = e + h

Where:

ΔE = Energy Generation
e = Electron Value
h = Hole Value

Given an example;
Find the energy generation when the electron value is 15 and the hole value is 5.

This implies that;

e = Electron Value = 15
h = Hole Value = 5

ΔE = e + h
That is, ΔE = 15 + 5
ΔE = 20

Therefore, the energy generation is 20.

Calculating the Electron Value when the Energy Generation and the Hole Value are Given

e = ΔE – h

Where:

e = Electron Value
ΔE = Energy Generation
h = Hole Value

Let’s solve an example;
Find the electron value when the energy generation is 22 and the hole value is 12.

This implies that;

ΔE = Energy Generation = 22
h = Hole Value = 12

e = ΔE – h
That is, e = 22 – 12
e = 10

Therefore, the electron value is 10.

Calculating the Hole Value when the Energy Generation and the Electron Value are Given

h = ΔE – e

Where:

h = Hole Value
ΔE = Energy Generation
e = Electron Value

Let’s solve an example;
Find the hole value when the energy generstion is 24 and the electron value is 18.

This implies that;

ΔE = Energy Generation = 24
e = Electron Value = 18

h = ΔE – e
So, h = 24 – 18
h = 6

Therefore, the hole value is 6.
