How to Calculate and Solve for Full Bridge Output Voltage of Circuit under Strained Condition | Electrical Strain Gauges

Last Updated on April 25, 2024

The image above represents full bridge output voltage of circuit under strained condition. To calculate full bridge output voltage of circuit under strained condition, three essential parameters are needed and these parameters are Gauge Factor (GF), Strain (ε) and Input Supply Voltage (vi).

The formula for calculating full bridge output voltage of circuit under strained condition:

vo = GF ε vi

Where:

vo = Full Bridge Circuit Output Voltage
GF = Gauge Factor
ε = Strain
vi = Input Supply Voltage

Let’s solve an example;
Find the full bridge output voltage of circuit when the gauge factor is 7, the strain is 4 and the input supply voltage is 3.

This implies that;

GF = Gauge Factor = 7
ε = Strain = 4
vi = Input Supply Voltage = 3

vo = GF ε vi
That is, vo = 7 x 4 x 3
vo = 84

Therefore, the full bridge output voltage of circuit is 84 V.

Calculating for Gauge Factor when the Full Bridge Output Voltage of Circuit, the Strain and the Input Supply Voltage are Given

GF = vo / ε . vi

Where;

GF = Gauge Factor
vo = Full Bridge Circuit Output Voltage
ε = Strain
vi = Input Supply Voltage

Let’s solve an example;
Find the gauge factor when the full bridge output voltage of circuit is 10, the strain is 5 and the input supply voltage is 8.

This implies that;

vo = Full Bridge Circuit Output Voltage =10
ε = Strain =  5
vi = Input Supply Voltage = 8

GF = vo / ε . vi
Then, GF = 105 . 8
GF = 10 / 40
GF = 0.25

Therefore, the gauge factor is 0.25.

Calculating for Strain when the Full Bridge Output Voltage of Circuit when the Gauge Factor and the Input supply Voltage is Given

ε =  voGF . vi

Where;

ε = Strain
vo = Full Bridge Circuit Output Voltage
GF = Gauge Factor
vi = Input Supply Voltage

Let’s solve an example;
Find the strain when the Full Bridge Circuit Output Voltage is 20, the gauge factor is 4 and the input supply voltage is 2.

This implies that;

vo = Full Bridge Circuit Output Voltage = 20
GF = Gauge Factor = 4
vi = Input Supply Voltage = 2

ε =  voGF . vi
That is, ε = 204 . 2
ε = 208
ε = 2.5

Therefore, the strain is 2.5.

Calculating for Input Supply Voltage when the Full Bridge Output Voltage of Circuit, Gauge Factor  and Strain are Gauge

vi =  voGF . ε

Where;

vi = Input Supply Voltage
vo = Full Bridge Circuit Output Voltage
GF = Gauge Factor
ε = Strain

Let’s solve an example;
Find the input supply voltage when the full bridge output voltage of circuit is 18, the gauge factor is 10 and the strain is 7.

This implies that;

vo = Full Bridge Circuit Output Voltage = 18
GF = Gauge Factor = 10
ε = Strain = 7

vi =  voGF . ε
That is, vi1810 . 7
vi18 / 70
vi = 0.257

Therefore, the input supply is 0.257.
