Where:

Given an example;

This implies that;

T = Temperature = 20

r* = -2γTm/ΔHf (Tm – T)
r* = -2(2)(12)/(4)(12 – 20)
r* = (-48)/(4)(-8)
r* = (-48)/(-32)
r* = 1.5

Therefore, the critical radius of solidifying media is 1.5 cm.
