The formula for calculating infiltration capacity:

F_p = F_c + (F_o – F_c)^-kt

Where:

F_p = Infiltration Capacity
F_o = Initial Infiltration Capacity
And, F_c = Final Constant Infiltration Capacity
t = Time
k = Empirical Constant

Let’s solve an example;
Find the infiltration capacity when the initial infiltration capacity is 16, the final constant infiltration capacity is 10, the time is 6 and the empirical constant is 21.

This implies that;

F_o = Initial Infiltration Capacity = 16
F_c = Final Constant Infiltration Capacity = 10
t = Time = 6
k = Empirical Constant = 21

F_p = F_c + (F_o – F_c)^-kt
F_p = 10 + (16 – 10)^-(21)(6)
So, F_p = 10 + (6)^-126
F_p = 10 + 8.97e-99
F_p = 10

Therefore, the infiltration capacity is 10.
