How to Calculate and Solve for Percentage Elongation, Ductility | Mechanical Properties

Last Updated on January 5, 2023

The image above represents percentage elongation, ductility.

To compute for percentage elongation, ductility, two essential parameters are needed and these parameters are the Final Length at Breakage (l1) and Initial Length before Breakage (l0).

The formula for calculating percentage elongation, ductility:

%El = 100((l1 – l0)/l0)

Where:

%El = Percentage Elongation, ductility
l1 = Final Length at Breakage
l0 = Initial Length before Breakage

Given an example;
Find the percentage elongation, ductility when the final length at breakage is 24 and the initial length before breakage is 12.

This implies that;

l1 = Final Length at Breakage = 24
l0 = Initial Length before Breakage = 12

%El = 100((l1 – l0)/l0)
%El = 100((24 – 12)/12)
%El = 100(12/12)
%El = 100(1)
%El = 100

Therefore, the percentage elongation, ductility is 100%.

Nickzom Calculator – The Calculator Encyclopedia is capable of calculating the percentage elongation, ductility.
