How to Calculate and Solve for Galileo’s Number | Fluidization

The formula for calculating galileo’s number:

Where:

Ga = Galileo’s Number
emf = Porosity at Minimum Fluidization
Re’mf = Reynold’s Number at Minimum Fluidization

Let’s solve an example;
Find the galileo’s number when the porosity at minimum fluidization is 12 and the reynold’s number at minimum fluidization is 6.

This implies that;

emf = Porosity at Minimum Fluidization = 12
Re’mf = Reynold’s Number at Minimum Fluidization = 6

Ga = 150(1 – emf/emf³)Re’mf + (1.75/emf³)Re’mf²
Ga = 150(1 – 12/12³)6 + (1.75/12³)6²
Ga = 150(-11/1728)6 + (1.75/1728)36
Ga = 150(-0.0063)6 + (0.00101)36
Ga = -5.729 + 0.0364
Ga = -5.692

Therefore, Galileo’s number, Ga is -5.69.
