How to Calculate and Solve for Angle of Friction | Merchant Force Circle

Last Updated on March 7, 2021

The image above represents the angle of friction.

To compute for the angle of friction, one essential parameter is needed and this parameter is co-efficient of friction (μ).

The formula for calculating angle of friction:

β = tan-1(μ)

Where:

β = Angle of Friction
μ = Co-efficient of Friction

Let’s solve an example;
Find the angle of friction when the co-efficient of friction is 21.

This implies that;

μ = Co-efficient of Friction = 21

β = tan-1(μ)
β = tan-1(21)
β = 87.27

Therefore, the angle of friction is 87.27°.

Nickzom Calculator – The Calculator Encyclopedia is capable of calculating the angle of friction.
