How to Calculate and Solve for Radiation | Methods of Application of Water

Last Updated on April 20, 2024

The image above represents radiation. To calculate radiation, five essential parameters are needed and these parameters are Extra Terrestrial Radiation (Ra), Constant depending on Latitude (a), Constant with Values (b), Actual Duration of Bright Sunshine (n) and Maximum Possible Hours of Bright Sunshine (N).

The formula for calculating radiation:

R2 = Ra[a + b . n / N]

Where:

R2 = Radiation
Ra = Extra Terrestrial Radiation
a = Constant depending on Latitude
b = Constant with Values
n = Actual Duration of Bright Sunshine
N = Maximum Possible Hours of Bright Sunshine

Let’s solve an example;
Find the radiation when the extra terrestial radiation is 11, constant depending on latitude is 17, the constant with values is 10, the actual duration of bright sunshine is 22 and the maximum possible hours of bright sunshine is 15.

This implies that;

Ra = Extra Terrestrial Radiation = 11
a = Constant depending on Latitude = 17
b = Constant with Values = 10
n = Actual Duration of Bright Sunshine = 22
N = Maximum Possible Hours of Bright Sunshine = 15

R2 = Ra[a + b . n / N]
R2 = 11[17 + (10)(22) / 15]
That is,R2 = 11[17 + 220 / 15]
R2 = 11[17 + 14.66]
So, R2 = 11[31.66]
R2 = 348.3

Therefore, the radiation is 348.3.
